Whether it’s because you’re a do-it-yourself kind of gal, trying to avoid plastic surgery, or just wanted to give your breasts some natural perkiness, firming up saggy breasts is works best when you work from both the inside and out.
But first things first, preventing further damage to breast tissue starts with smart habits. Read my previous post on 6 things that can make your breasts droop prematurely.
And now the action plan to keep (or reclaim) your breasts fabulously firm!
Find a bra that fits you to a tee
Much easier said than done I know. Shopping for a bra is like shopping for jeans…exhausting! To make it easier for yourself get professionally fitted, and I don’t mean the sales girl in the lingerie department. Find a boutique that specializes in undergarments, have them measure you and try on a million bras. Tedious? Yes. Worth it? Definitely!
Give the girls a good rub down
Massaging your breasts on a daily basis help to increase circulation and relieve the lymphatic build up. See below for a nice video clip that demonstrates how to drain the lymph from your breasts. When you massage your breasts, concentrate on lifting and molding your breast tissue in the way you feel they should be, up and out. Remember that an ill-fitting bra probably pushed your boobies towards your underarms so you have to coax it back where it belongs. Although you can use any lotion or oil to massage, I prefer to use oils with skin healing properties such as virgin coconut oil camelina oil, pumpkin seed oil, and emu oil, or you can also use a firming bust cream (see below).
Nourish your breasts both inside and out:
- Cod Liver Oil: Cod Liver oil has omega 3 fatty acids that help to keep the skin moisturized and plump. Vitamin A in cod liver oil can help to regenerate healthy breast tissue keeping it smooth and supple. Take it along with high-quality butter oil from pasture raised cows or this butter oil to boost the effects.
- Astaxanthin Supplement: Your tongue may twist a bit when you say its name, but this wonderful algae-derived antioxidant has been clinically proven to increase the skins ability to protect itself from weakening. In studies that combined this supplement with omega 3’s, women showed improvement in elasticity, smoother skin surface, and under eye puffiness. Using astaxanthin topically also appears to have positive effects.
- Virgin Coconut Oil: Virgin Coconut Oil is extracted from fresh coconut meat rather than the dry hull so it smells divinely of fresh coconut milk! It’s loaded with enzymes, antioxidants and essential fatty acids in the perfect proportions and leaves the skin perfectly glistening without feeling greasy. Most importantly it has saturated fat which it vital for healthy, hydrated skin cells. I use virgin coconut oil as my daily body moisturizer and makeup remover in addition to cooking, so I buy this virgin coconut oil in a large tub which lasts me about 6-8 weeks.
- Firming Bust Creams: Nope, not the ones that claim to grow your peaches into melons, but rather anti-aging creams that help to repair your decollete and bust. Bust creams are similar to face creams. However, bust creams are usually heavier in consistency since the skin on the body is thicker than that of the face. Use a bust cream with clinically proven antioxidents such vitamin C and green tea or firming effects such as peptides.
Exercise Your Boobies, or rather the muscles underneath them.
Building up the muscles in your chest, the pectorals, can raise the tissue and lift up breast tissue naturally. Having stronger chest muscles is fantastic on its own, but if it makes your chest perky too, well, that’s all the more reason to strengthen those pec’s. Don’t worry about getting a masculine look. Unless your are a serious body builder and using steroids, your chest will look graceful and firm. Here’s an excellent video showing three ways to modify a push-up if you can’t do a regular push-up quite yet.
Use a Reshaping Bra…maybe
A reshaping bra claims to retrain the breast tissue back to its correct position, up and out. Ardyss, and their out-of-business competitor Jeunique that can still be found on eBay, are two brands that have made such claims. I was very curious about these bras so I bought 4 from Jeunique before they went out of business that is, and decided to give it a go. I was pleased with the immediate perky, sweater girl look. I don’t want to be too hasty with a recommendation of reshaping bra’s, but after nursing 4 babies, I’m inclined to say that using Jeunique while I was nursing did seem to help my breasts bounce back to their original shape after I weaned.
