Simple Ideas For a More Simple New Year

We have a lot on our plates, but for some reason, when New Years comes around, we insist on creating resolutions that add more . Instead, how about try this list I created. They’re so refreshingly easy, I bet even the most overloaded vintage mama can stick to them (and feel a whole lot better for doing them too!).

Create a night time routine

We mama’s are great at making sure the kids get enough sleep…and great at not getting enough sleep ourselves. I’m sure you know all the negative effects of  not getting enough sleep. I do, and I still sleep very late. So instead of beating yourself up about sleeping late, I say create a nighttime routine that will help you ease into to sleep faster. It may lead to getting going to bed earlier, but at the very least sleep will come faster once your head hits the pillow.

Forget about drinking those 8 glasses of water

You see it every where (perhaps even on your own New Years Resolution list)…drink more water, but that’s one old school advice that we shouldn’t necessarily rely on anymore. If you’re thirsty or your urine is dark yellow (yup, we are talking urine on TheVintageMama), then have an extra glass or two. Other than that, your probably getting all the fluids you need from the food and water you already consume.

Get dressed every day

This may seem like an odd resolution, but if you’re a stay at home mama, you know exactly what I’m talking about. It’s so easy to stay in your’re pajamas all day, or not shower or comb your hair, or even wash your face when you’re at home all day with the kids. I know this all too well since that was the kind of mama I was about 8 years ago. Stop it. Right now. Get ready and get dressed (down to the shoes) everyday. Even if your’re just going to be home all day changing diapers or scrubbing floors.

Give up one of the things on your “one day” list

One day I’m going to learn to play piano. One day, I’m going to start that family quilt. This is the year I’m going to start my herb garden. This is the year I take samba classes. This can’t be the year for everything and that’s okay. I’ve learned that life goes through seasons and that means that there are many things that I must put off for a while (maybe even years). Give up the stress of trying to do it now and just wait for the next season of life to pick it back up.

Four times a year, quickly go around the house with 2 bags

…one of stuff to throw away and the other of stuff to donate. Decluttering, done.

Flirt more with your hubby

Daily life certainly has a way of putting a damper on romance, but keeping the sparks flying is a must. Let your man know every day that he’s still your number one guy.

Sprinkle vintage love every day

Life is so much lovelier when it’s done it’s sprinkled with vintage love. Get the inspiration you need by subscribing to The Vintage Mama Society Newsletter!

Have a wonderful New Year! Raise a glass of bubbly to a new year of vintage living and give your hubby a kiss he won’t soon forget when the clock strikes midnight!

I love this one. It’s all basic, but something that I need reminding of, especially the getting dressed for the day. It helps me feel better about myself, too.
