I’ve mentioned in a previous post that I’m writing my first fictional book, and I’m super excited to share a preview with you!
It’s a bit of a slow-go at the moment as I’m still a few weeks away from finishing my degree and still homeschooling my children in addition to working as a freelance copywriter and copy editor.
However, graduation is just five short weeks away, and my little ones will soon be on Summer vacation, so I’m confident that this book is well on its way to being completed this Summer as scheduled. Yippee!
Hope you enjoy the preview of Crush and looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
With drunkenness spilling over with every step, Laura finds her way to the gate of her apartment building. Jerking to stop swaying, Laura shoves her hand into her purse trying to sense something resembling keys.
After digging through her purse for a minute, she remembers that she doesn’t need the keys to open the gate. Stumbling forward and annoyed at the lifetime she wasted looking for the keys, Laura leans in close and presses her forehead against the key panel. Closing one eye, she focuses on the wiggling numbers, manages to jab in the code, 1128, the date of a wedding that will never be.
Laura shuts her eyes and groans.
Gulping air, she heaves the gate open. Heels and coat in one hand and purse dragging from the other, Laura staggers up to the apartment.
Pressing up against the door in exhaustion, she realizes that she needs her keys to get through this door. She abandons the tired heels and coat on the floor to empty out her purse when she remembers that the keys are already in her hand. Hugging the door, begging it to open, she manages to unlock it.
The weight of her heart doubles.
She kicks in her heels and coat, trying to beat the choking tears. Laura stumbles inside and finds that she cannot take another step. She collapses into her apartment, kicking the door shut.
Feeling her chest crush against the floor, Laura tries to catch her breath, but all she can do is wail.
